Work & Education History

A.C. Brooke

Allison B. Connelly

My humanity renders me a storyteller by default, but my medium of choice has always been writing and photography. While I pull a lot from my own life for inspiration, most of my work covers issues at a grander scale, like mental illness or documenting the effects of the Pandemic.

The most fulfilling thing we can do is give back to our community. I’m grateful that my passions allow me an outlet to do that.

Work History

United Chinese Americans | English Media Team Lead

May 2022 – Present (Washington, D.C.)

My professional relationship with United Chinese Americans (UCA) began in May of 2022 when I was brought on board to help them prepare for their national convention in Washington, D.C. While predominately my role has been that of graphic designer, my duties also include updating their website, managing their social media platforms and editing.

View Higher Films | Silent War Assistant Director

August 2021 – Present (Severna Park, MD)

I’ve had the privilege of working closely alongside award-winning filmmaker, Changfu Chang on a documentary about mental health in the Asian American community. On Silent War, my role consists of everything from administrative duties, such as communicating with interviewees and creating transcripts, to hands-on production tasks, such as filming b-roll or working the camera during interviews. The film is set to be completed in Spring of 2023.

MYSFI | Assistant Course Director; Instructor

January 2022 – Present (Howard County, MD)

I’ve had the exciting opportunity of having a hand in the creation of a grant funded program for students in Howard County, Maryland: The Multicultural Youth Storytelling Film Institute (MYSFI). The program’s mission is to provide the education and equipment needed for budding filmmakers to tell their stories, specifically stories that illuminate minority youth experiences. I work with a team of devoted individuals. My role is a versatile one, covering everything from marketing to course instructional.

I lead the branding side of this project, coming up with the color scheme, logo, the look and structure of the website, promotional materials, and our overall projected face to the public. In conjunction with this, I’ve had the opportunity to work and teach alongside Changfu Chang, the lead instructor of the course. MYSFI is a proud promoter of youth empowerment and diversity, and we have plans to expand beyond Howard County in the future.

Lancaster EMS | Marketing Intern

June 2021 – December 2021 (Millersville, PA)

During the latter half of 2021, I had the opportunity to explore the world of non-profits at my internship in Lancaster EMS’s marketing department. I worked in a hybrid format, attending meetings and events in-person, while doing the vast majority of my other tasks remotely. I was responsible for managing and posting to social media pages, photographing personnel in-action, helping organize outreach events and representing the company on outings. It was also during this experience I realized my love for graphic design. I was in charge of designing print & digital media, including the company’s membership brochure and their very first annual report, which consisted of over thirty pages.

Gray Sky Portraits | Small Business Owner; Photographer

September 2017 – Present (Chester County, PA)

I’ve been doing portrait work since I was sixteen, but only recently decided to officially establish my own photography business. While I’ve shot weddings, my main focus is on family portraits. As a small business owner, not only am I responsible for taking, editing and delivering images, I’m also tasked with creating an online presence and maintaining my brand’s image. Stepping into this role has strengthened my skills in many areas, but mostly that of leadership, communication, marketing and artistry.
