The Great Debate: An Inside Look At Gen Z On Antidepressants
“Medicating mental illness is becoming increasingly common–especially among young people…while our youth may be subjected to higher rates of mental health issues, they’re also much more apt than previous generations to talk about it; and unlike the conversation surrounding antidepressants often characterized by polarity, their experiences with medicating mental illness–as well as their thoughts surrounding the practice–are much more nuanced…”

Past the Patch: As Long As You’re Still Breathing
Like many other EMTs, Lynn Koller’s first experience with EMS was, regrettably, on the other side of the ambulance…Helpless, she watched on as first responders worked diligently to save her grandma, Linda. Still just in her late 40s, she had collapsed suddenly at home from a heart attack…And just like that, before stepping foot in a classroom or picking out a sparkly outfit for back to school, Lynn would learn her first life lesson: The world can be a senseless place.“

Men: The Silent Survivors
“The thing about men is, they’re silent survivors.’
Five of us sat in a dimly lit basement. A space that had been empty just a few hours earlier was now crammed with wires and camera equipment. By default, it seems wherever a group of college kids gather, there’s bound to be a frothiness that follows. The conversation, however, was anything but…”

The 50 Minute Goodbye: A Student’s Firsthand Account Of Our Changing World
“I think I was in the car when I got the email. With squinted eyes, I tried my best to make out the tiny white letters on the screen before me: “STUDENTS’ SPRING BREAK EXTENDED”…but the idea of life actually being upended as it had been halfway across the globe seemed like hardly a possibility…”

Past the Patch: The Business of Second Chances
“It’s never too late to change your life.”
To claim EMS is in the business of second chances would be an understatement. But while the first thought that comes to mind upon hearing that may be pictures of patients clinging to life, many of those on the other side of the ambulance have found just as much hope in emergency medicine…”

Off the Grid: 30 Days Without Social Media
“Social media undoubtedly plays a huge role in our lives today. So the real question is, what’s the nature of that impact? But I wanted to take this inquiry a step further, so I decided to go on the front lines myself—I decided to rediscover what life felt like without social media. For a duration of 30 days, I removed my presence from all social media platforms and kept a daily log detailing my experience….To my surprise, I stuck with it, and it took a route that I was not entirely expecting.
Novel Excerpts
(2020)
The First Chapter of Seventeen Times Around the Sun
“I stand on the front porch awaiting the door to open. Little droplets of sweat collect on the back of my neck as the seconds passed by. Shade from an awning keeps out most of the heat, but it’s still a bad day to have worn jeans. Of course I had anyway–I like them far too much to have chosen otherwise. I have a habit of forgetting that the end of August still counts as summer, which doesn’t help, either. The weatherman on the radio had said it might rain, but nothing has fallen quite yet. Instead, the world is caked in a layer of humidity thick enough to cut through. There are worse places to be, however, like gym class in June. Or in those pictures of the Thar Desert in my dad’s office he’d cut out from old National Geographic magazines—he was adopted from India and pledges to visit one day. But here is not so bad. I will survive…”
